Information about RSS News Feeds

  • What is RSS?
RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is a family of web feed formats (XML-based format) used to summarise and publish frequently updated content such as News headlines. You can get the latest headlines in one place, as soon as it is published, without having to visit the websites you have taken the feed from.
You will usually find the small icons
, on web sites that offer RSS web feeds:
(ECORD uses a RSS 2.0 format.)

  • How do I start using RSS?

By clicking the RSS icon, , , or displayed in the address bar will initiate the subscription process. Web browsers (like Mozilla-Firefox, Opera, Safari, and Explorer) check for RSS web feeds for you when you visit a web site, and display an icon in the address bar when they find one (see below).

  • How can I add the "ECORD News" to my web site/page?
It makes also easier for all IODP and ECORD related web sites to link to the "ECORD News" content using RSS. We encourage ECORD/IODP webmasters or participants to configure their sites/pages so that ECORD news feeds are embedded into their own pages and updated automatically.
We require to advertise using the appropriate names and links such as 'ECORD News', 'ESO News' and 'ESSAC News' and to make sure the attribution text should read each appropriate title.
