Education

The Integrated Ocean Drilling Program (IODP) provides a vast amount of scientific information that is of interest to various groups (see Education pages of the IODP website). As all IODP education activities are conducted at a national level to meet local curricula standards, teachers and students from ECORD member country are encouraged to contact ESSAC via the ESSAC Office and their ESSAC delegate to participate in.

The "Teacher-At-Sea (TAS) programme is an outreach programme where berths for teachers are opened in the IODP expeditions. The main goals of TAS programme are 1) to provide teachers with an opportunity to participate in seagoing research experiences, working side-by-side with scientists, using current state-of-the-art approaches to solve scientific problems of global interest, and gaining first-hand knowledge of the results of seagoing science expeditions, (2) to translate scientific results into useful teaching resources, such as classroom curriculum materials and (3) to distribute these resources to classrooms
