Ocean research drilling delivers science that addresses global issues and fascinates the public. By means of an integrated approach within ECORD and with all IODP partners, the ECORD Outreach Team develops various materials and resources to share and disseminate information about scientific ocean drilling program to a wide range of audience. The ECORD Outreach Team is composed of the ESO and EMA outreach specialists and the ESSAC science coordinator and meets regularly twice a year to set up ECORD activities listed below.

- MSP Expedition Outreach: prior to each mission-specific platform (MSP) expedition, the ECORD Science Operator (ESO) is charged with establishing a MSP communication plan prior to each expedition: Arctic Coring, Tahiti Sea-Level, New Jersey Shallow Shelf, Great Barrier Reef Environmental Changes
- IODP/ICDP Townhall meetings: since 2005, townhall meetings are organised jointly with ICDP at EGU 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011
IODP Townhall meetings are also held at AGU and JPGU.
- IODP-ECORD Booths: Since September 2003, ECORD presents IODP in exhibition booths at international conferences such as EGU, GAC-MAC, Oceanology, IGC and team up with IODP-MI and CDEX at AGU, JPGU, AOGS.
