Deadline to apply: 30 April 2020

The IODP Environmental Protection and Safety Panel (EPSP) is an advisory body of the JOIDES Resolution Facility Board (JRFB) composed of volunteer experts from IODP member countries. The EPSP primarily carries out a site-by-site review of proposed or scheduled IODP expeditions from the point of view of safety and environmental protection. The ECORD Facility Board and Chikyu IODP Board also currently use EPSP as an advisory body.

ESSAC, the European Consortium of Ocean Research Drilling (ECORD) Science Support and Advisory Committee, calls for applications from experts in the field of marine geology, geophysics and/or engineering to serve as an ECORD member of EPSP. Applicants should be familiar with reflection seismic data in its various forms, and preferably have experience in assessing hazards associated with seabed drilling/coring.

The successful candidate will be expected to attend all meetings of the EPSP, generally held once annually, and be available for communications and evaluations conducted electronically.  The duration of the appointment to EPSP is a minimum of three years, renewable at the discretion of the EPSP Chair, the Facility Boards, and ESSAC.

Please e-mail your application to the ESSAC Office before 30 April 2020, providing the following documents (PDFs only):

1) a letter of interest including your specific expertise and research interests, and outlining any previous involvement in DSDP/ODP/IODP expeditions or panels (note that prior involvement is not a requirement);

2) a two-page summary CV; and

3) a list of publications. Please also send a copy of your application documents to your national IODP office/ESSAC delegate (https://www.ecord.org/about-ecord/management-structure/essac/).
