ECORD announces with deep regret the postponement of IODP Expedition 386: Japan Trench Paleoseismology. The current global health crisis related to the COVID-19 disease outbreak forced us to postpone this expedition to a later date. Travel restrictions of many expedition participants led to the loss of the critical number of staff trained in IODP-MSP systems and equipment required to implement the expedition.
The ECORD Facility Board will work with the operators to reschedule this expedition as soon as possible. This expedition will be jointly implemented by the ECORD Science Operator (ESO), and the Institute for Marine-Earth Exploration and Engineering (MarE3) within the Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC), thus ushering cross collaboration and operational knowledge exchange between IODP operators for the implementation of IODP expeditions.
